President Museveni explains Uganda’s choice to host NAM summit


President Yoweri Museveni has stated that Uganda’s choice to host the Non-Aligned Motion (NAM) Heads of State Summit in 2024 was attributable to its neutrality on worldwide points.

“Uganda was chosen to host and the explanation to pick Uganda was due to our impartial place on the earth. We didn’t apply,” H.E Museveni stated.

The President who was addressing the Nationwide Resistance Motion (NRM) Parliamentary Regional Whips at State Home Entebbe yesterday, famous that the upcoming assembly is larger than the African Union, one of many greatest conferences Uganda has ever held in 2010 and the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Authorities Assembly, including that it’s a possibility to market Uganda and enhance tourism.

“It is going to be very straightforward for us to speak about enterprise and commerce with them. After we held the Commonwealth assembly our vacationer arrivals rose since then when the world heard that Africa had hosted the Commonwealth efficiently,” H.E Museveni additional stated, including that other than the NAM assembly, Uganda can even host the high-level worldwide Summit of the Group of Seventy-Seven Plus China (G77 + China).

Uganda will host the nineteenth Summit of the Non-Aligned Motion (NAM) below the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared World Affluence”. Throughout the summit, which can be held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in January 2024, President Museveni will take over the chairmanship of the group from the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and his management will last as long as 2026.

The NAM is a world organisation consisting of 120 international locations as of April 2018 comprising 53 international locations from Africa, 39 from Asia, 26 from Latin America and the Caribbean and a couple of from Europe (Belarus, Azerbaijan) that aren’t formally aligned with or towards any main energy bloc and is the biggest grouping of Member states worldwide after the United Nations (UN).

Uganda was endorsed to formally Chair the organisation on behalf of Africa for the interval from 2023 – 2026.

The assembly at State Home was attended by amongst others; the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Authorities Chief Whip Hon. Hamson Obua and the Legal professional Basic Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka.
