SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australia stated a safety evaluation of a 99-year lease held by Chinese language firm Landbridge on the northern port of Darwin, rising as a key focus of its defence technique, discovered it was “not essential to fluctuate or cancel the lease”.
In a press release, the prime minister’s division stated: “Australians can have faith that their security is not going to be compromised”, and added that monitoring of safety preparations would proceed across the northern port.
The 99-year lease of the industrial port to Landbridge was put below scrutiny in 2021 by the Australian authorities because it boosted overseas funding screening on nationwide safety grounds.
The announcement the lease wouldn’t be diverse or cancelled comes forward of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s go to to Washington subsequent week, and forward of an anticipated go to to China this 12 months.
